week 1

This week we started unit 12, to do this we had to create a who am I? Piece to camera video discussing our own interests and inspirations but also questions relating to our final project topic. This meant creating a mind map of ideas and narrowing it down to the three strongest using a SWAT analysis. I decided a questionnaire was an effective way of choosing just one idea, I was able to analyse the results deciding on a final idea creating questions relating to the topic of interest. From this task I was able to further develop my primary research skills (questionnaire) to gain opinions from other people's perspectives and finalise a topic for my final project, I was also able to further my knowledge of cap-cut using it to edit the Who am I? task.

week 2

This week I began week two of unit 12 work which was to analyse three media products related to my chosen research topic. To do this I found videos discussing consumerism one being a clip from a Stacey Dooley documentary, I was able to break down her interviewing style and the way she used facts to shock participants. Another of the videos was from BBC ideas I was able to discuss the demographic of this webpage and how the video conforms to it, from this task I was able to improve my analysing skills whilst breaking down what I could use in my documentary to captivate my target audience. Towards the end of the week I began looking into alternate pathway's to university if I had decided not to go, for example a gap year, apprenticeship or full time work.

week 3

Over the course of two weeks I continued with unit 12, to do this I compared all three media sources I had analysed in week 6 to outline what had influenced my documentary idea, whether I had decided to change or add anything. I then moved onto research, firstly defining what primary, secondary, quantitative and qualitative research meant and then created a mind map outlining the sources of research that could be useful for my research (websites, books, questionnaires). I then moved onto creating a table to display my research activities to get a clear understanding to what I need to look into and how. Overall from both week's work I have improved on my organisational skills getting everything done on time, I was also able to develop my knowledge of key words and there meanings when it comes to explaining the research I need to do it will help.

week 4/5

This week I continued with my research plan adding more to the table which will help support my main research question; breaking down the topics I wan to make points on in my actual documentary. Following on from this I began conducting the research that I had planned ensuring I looked into a variety of media using both primary and secondary research skills following on from previous tasks which I can then further develop. Following on from my research plan I began conducting the research which took place over both weeks 4 and 5; this then enabled me to gain as much information as I could to support my research question, developing both my research and referencing skills using a mixture of primary and secondary to gain a variety of facts. Once I had conducted my research I analysed my findings summarising how each source of information will help me to conduct my project exploring my research question, which will overall further develop my analysing skills and help me to gain a a better understanding to creating my documentary answering the research question. At the end of the week I wrote a research report summarising the key work I had done that affected my idea whether it changed or supported/helped me to further it.
